Not Having an Antivirus: What Are the Risks? Antivirus

All computer security specialists repeat it: an antivirus is essential. We are obviously of the same opinion and the objective of this article is to convince you that any device connected to the Internet absolutely needs adequate protection.

Rather than showing you point by point the good reasons to install an antivirus, we will rather demolish some received ideas! Discover the reality behind the 3 bad arguments people use to justify not protecting their computers.

"I know how to recognize questionable emails and other threats"

Indeed, it is very easy for an experienced Internet user to spot the majority of the traps. Fraudulent banner ads, questionable emails ... at a glance, it is possible to avoid 99% of threats ... then remains the last percentage.

Every day new viruses are created. More destructive, and harder to detect. The big challenge for computer security software is to spot new threats, find solutions and update users' software to protect them. It is for this reason that antiviruses are very regularly updated.

Adapting your behaviour to viruses that you don't even know exist yet is simply impossible. Activities that you feel are not risky may not be the next day. Without up-to-date antivirus, you simply don't have the ability to avoid these new threats.

"If I have any doubts, I scan my computer"

This misconception still exists today because many French people still have a romanticized image of what a computer virus is. The cybercriminals frantically typing in green police on their control console, the display of skull and crossbones in pirate style to show the victim that she is infected… so leave these prejudices to the television series: it is very far from reality.

Except in the case of ransomware, you won't know that a virus has infected you until the damage is done. We are thinking in particular of the case of spyware which aims to install itself discreetly on your computer/smartphone and to take a look at the services you use, the passwords of your Facebook account, your bank details, etc.

If you wait until you know before you take action, you could well lose your personal data and possibly your device without even being notified. Prevention is better than cure.

No, no and still no. Apple has never found the secret recipe for making its devices immune to computer attacks. Indeed, there are fewer attacks on MAC (or Linux) than on devices using Windows, for 2 reasons:

User actions are more controlled. We can say that the OS as a whole is more "suspicious"

The vast majority of people use Windows. To reach as many people as possible, hackers logically focus on this operating system.

Mac OS is therefore not a flawless operating system. It is certainly less targeted by hackers, but that does not make it an invulnerable ecosystem. On Windows, Mac as well as Linux, you need an antivirus!

Your computer/smartphone is not yet protected?
