A Malicious Virus Identified by Eset
Hackers are still rampant. A new type of malicious virus has in fact been discovered by Eset, an Antivirus publisher. This is a new cyber attack which is quite peculiar, as text messages from smartphones have become the targets. This malware is called Android / FakeApp.KP because it hides behind fake apps on Android. The confidentiality of your details is violated by hackers who have launched this intelligent virus which pierces all protection of SMS. Hackers have designed this sophisticated virus to intercept codes received by SMS and passwords. In this way, they can access information in emails as they wish, or even use the messaging system for their purposes.
First Round: Anti-piracy is Organized
Computer experts have previously developed an effective method to prevent any hacking of telephone messaging. When the user identifies himself on the site, he will be subjected to two-step authentication. They ask for their mobile phone number and send them an SMS using a special process that provides the one-time code. He enters both this code and his password. The purpose of this double precaution is to prevent any hacker from appropriating the password.
Round Two: a Reaction from Hackers
However, hackers are not lacking in ingenuity. They will still find other ways to jump over these security barriers. Social engineering has become its current method of trapping targeted people. For example, a hacker does not hesitate to play the role of a victim. Impersonating a person, he contacts the Mobile Operator to request a line transfer. He will easily receive the SMS which contains the one-time code. The other tip is more technical. This involves launching a virus hidden in an application. The victim's smartphone is thus contaminated and the hacker manages to read the SMS without his knowledge.
Third Round: Google offensive
The Android-Editor obviously reacted to this piracy. Google has, in fact, taken measures that restrict and select application access to SMS. This includes, among other things, the removal of unwarranted apps from the Play Store. These uncontrolled applications have opened the doors for hackers to intercept access codes for two-step authentication. It is a measure imposed to secure SMS. A battle has been won, but not the war. Cyber hackers continue to be rife and they have not given up.
Round Four: New Hacker Attack
Hackers will abandon the classic method of direct access to SMS and exploit notifications. They will simply ask for access. The process is clever: you receive an SMS on your Smartphone. This is in the form of a notification displayed on the screen. The virus that infected your phone intercepts the notification. Then the hacker will act as a legitimate user. This deception is certainly unstoppable for an SMS, but for email, the hacker does not access all of the content. He will have to be satisfied with the truncated text.
